Fast day (Wednesday/Friday)

The Orthodox Church fasts on Wednesdays and Fridays through most of the year, for the betrayal and the Cross, and in four seasons: Great Lent, the Nativity Fast, the Apostles’ Fast, and the Dormition Fast. Feasts lift the fast; some days permit wine and oil, or fish.

Fasting is prayer offered with the body. The rule is the same for all; the measure is yours to receive, ask your priest. About the fasts ›
